Gatwick Airport was at the centre of an emergency when a Thomas Cook passenger plane carrying 320 passengers was forced to land at Gatwick Airport. The Thomas Cook aeroplane was travelling from Manchester Airport to Turkey but had to be diverted to Gatwick Airport after an onboard oven started smoking. The Thomas flights TSX975K, which was carrying 320 passengers on their way to Turkey for their summer holiday, landed at Gatwick airport at 8.40am as a precaution.

All passengers were taken off the plane as an investigation was launched to find out the cause of the incident. West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended the scene but according to a spokesman the smoking had stopped by the time the plane had landed.

The Boeing 767 had taken off from Manchester Airport and was on its way to Turkey. A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crew was called as a precaution but was not needed. A Gatwick Airport spokesman said to the media: The aircraft came into the Gatwick on priority and we took the passengers off.
