The United Nations in Afghanistan is pulling out hundreds of its staff from the country because of deteriorating security. The UN says about 600 foreign staff will be evacuated or relocated to safer parts of the country until additional security is put in place.
The move comes after last week's attack on one of the international guest houses in the capital Kabul that killed five UN workers. The UN spokesman in Afghanistan, Adrian Edwards, says the organisation is still shaken by the attack but remains committed to its work in Afghanistan.
"We have no choice but to take additional security steps to protect our staff," he said. "We are however continuing our efforts to minimise any disruption.
Our programs we hope will be affected as little possible." - BBC
