| Actress Wendy Richard died today after a battle with cancer, her agent said. The former EastEnder died in the Harley Street Clinic in London with her husband John Burns by her side. She was 65. Her agent Kevin Francis said: "She was incredibly brave and retained her sense of humour right to the end." Richard starred in the BBC soap for more than 20 years, but became a household name before that in department store sitcom Are You Being Served?. She endured two battles with breast cancer in the mid-1990s and then in 2002. The cancer went into remission after years of treatment, but last year it was discovered that the disease had returned in an aggressive form, attacking her kidneys, bones and spine. |

| Turkish broadcaster TRT confirmed on its website last October what fans were speculating about already for days: Hadise Açıkgöz will represent the nation at the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow. The 24 year old singer is very well known in Belgium, where she was born, as singer, songwriter and since recently even as TV presenter. With this choice, Turkish television picked an experienced entertainer to represent the country on stage in Moscow 2009. TRT officials assured the young singer significant influence in the choice of the song and the act. |

| Jade Ewen has tonight won the selection show Eurovision - Your Country Needs You! and will represent the UK with the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren composition My Time in the Final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Moscow in May. In a departure from the format of previous national selections in the United Kingdom, the process in 2009 has been all about finding the singer to represent the nation in the Eurovision Song Contest. Behind the scenes, selection manager Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Grammy Award winning songwriter Diane Warren have been busy writing the song which the winning artist will sing in Moscow in May. |

| Alexandra Burke wept tears of joy as she was voted X Factor winner, beating JLS in the final. The win means the 20 year old has landed a £1 million record contract and a shot at this year's Christmas No 1. Clutching a copy of her new single Hallelujah, she said: "This is for everyone who voted for me. This is for you. I love you." Alexandra was firm 8/13 favourite with the bookies to win the ITV1 show. She was also told she would perform with Elton John at the O2 Arena on New Year's Eve. |
