Two goals in the last seven minutes denied a makeshift Scotland team a draw against Japan at the Nissan Stadium. Christophe Berra deflected a cross beyond Craig Gordon (83) for the opener and Keisuke Honda wrapped it up with a fine 20-yard finish (90). Atsuto Achida fired wide of goal for the dominant home side while Steven Fletcher was denied by Eiji Kawashima after running clean through.

Burley happy with display Scotland boss George Burley insisted the 2-0 friendly loss to Japan had been worthwhile after six players got their first caps in the Yokohama clash. The Scots looked on course to seal a draw before two goals in the last seven minutes consigned them to defeat.

Burley said: "It was a good workout. Japan had the luck today but I think as a team we defended well. I think it was a good exercise for both countries." Berra positive despite loss Christophe Berra tried to look on the bright side after Scotland's 2-0 defeat to Japan despite scoring the first goal for his side's opponents in Yokohama.

Berra diverted Yuichi Komano's cross into his own goal while under pressure from striker Takayuki Morimoto. The Wolves star said: "I think we defended well overall and, I know I gave away the own goal, but there was nothing I could do to be honest."
