It’s all Bright lights & Greasepaint this winter in Altinkum with a performance of “Alad in Tinky Town” The Altinkum, Didim area will be hosting this panto performance on Friday 10th December and is a Christmas Pantomime loosely based on “Aladdin and the magic lamp” In 2008 Altinkum, Didim saw the first ever Pantomime which was performed in Didim and now, for the third year running, a group of Didim locals will don flamboyant costumes and take to the stage for an hour and half of comedy, song and dance in aid of the Childrens Charity ‘Coguklar Aglamasin Dernegi’ (Don’t Cry Children).

This Altinkum Panto was written by local writer Kym Ciftci, takes on the traditional story of Aladdin but gives it a Turkish twist with a bespoke script that is also peppered with Turkish phrases to get the audience learning while they laugh. Turning it up a notch this year, music wise, is professional music producer, Alec Downie (now retired), or as he is otherwise known ‘Didim’s resident music geek’.

Altinkum Didim’s resident music geek will be taking control of the sound booth for the evening to ensure the entertainment is right on cue. Although attended predominately by British expats, there is normally a Turkish contingent in the audience who appear to thoroughly enjoy themselves. In fact, this year there is even a local Altinkum businessman ‘Sirin Akkoyun’, who is taking on a role in the cast.

Sticking to a traditional Panto theme, there is a male “Panto Dame”, a female “Principle Boy” and plenty of audience participation with cue cards, sing-a-longs and dances all compared by seasoned entertainer ‘Russ West’.

The event will be held in the theatre building of the “Ilk Ogretmen” School in Didim, who have kindly donated the venue for the evening and all proceeds will go to “Coguklar Aglamasin Dernegi” whose committee will be present on the night.

DOORS OPEN AT 7PM AND THE ENTRY PRICE IS A SMALL FEE OF ONLY 5TL PAYABLE ON THE DOOR!

It promises to be one of the best entertaining evenings in Altinkum this year, so if you are around, head for the bright lights of Tinky Town and let the cast of “Alad” entertain you............oh yes they will

The Ilk Ogretmen Okul is in Yeni Mahalle, Ortaokul Caddesi which is just a few minutes from Ataturk Bulavri the main street that runs though Didim. The doors open at 7pm and the pantomime will start around 7:30pm.

Tickets can be bought on the door and cost just 5tl. A Christmas Pantomime is a very British tradition so its something to make the expats feel a little bit Christmasy but also benefits a worthwhile Turkish cause through the charity "Coguklar Aglamasin" who do good works for disabled children and poor families.

Everyone involved in the panto have given their free time and skills and hope to bring a smile to the face of Didim and make it a happy and memorable time for the children in the audience.

We do hope you will be able to come along and see the show for yourself, if you are coming from Akbuk, Sahte Cennet or surronding areas, you can always get a local dolmus bus and attend to event and show your support to Childrens Charity in Altinkum Didim.
