Some of Turkey's largest public sector unions are to stage a one-day strike to protest against the government's labour policies, it was announced Tuesday. The strike to last all Wednesday and expected to affect schools, hospitals and public transportation in major towns.
The unions, which represent some 630,000 workers in Turkey, are seeking improved rights for collective bargaining and for holding strikes. Labour leaders have described the action as a 'warning' strike that could lead to further work stoppages.
The strike which is organised by Turkey's major confederations of civil servant unions, Kamu-Sen and KESK aims at laying the foundations of union rights for civil servants, including the right to go on strikes and the right to hold collective bargaining talks.
Todays Zaman stated that some other confederations of civil servant unions including Kamu-Is, BASK and HAKSEN will also participate in the strike which is also supported by Turk-Is, DISK labour unions and trade unions like Turkish Physicians Union and Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects.
This oneday strike will effect most of the towns and will be alot of delays with goverment offices and might effect flights is well. Strike is expected to last for a day and will last all wednesday in Turkey.
