Turkey is going ahead with the construction of its first nuclear reactor, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday and stated very clearly and will make sure safe as possible and comply with rules. Prime Minister stated that sooner will be better for Turkey and he urged. “We want to finish them as soon as possible,” Erdogan told a press conference before he left for Russia for a visit this week.
Russia is a partner in the new plant being constructed in Akkuyu, expected to cost about $20 billion USD. Turkey nuclear deal signed and worth $20 billion with Russia last May to build its first nuclear power plant in Akkuyu on Turkey’s pristine Mediterranean coast.
The licensing process of the plant has already begun. Turkey is also holding talks with Japan on a second nuclear power plant in Sinop on the Black Sea coast.
The Akkuyu site is to be built, owned and operated by Russia, and it will run four 1200 MWe VVER units. Erdogen responded news reporters questions and responded clearly that risks posed by environmentalists: Prime Minister said there was no investment without risk, noting that if people wanted a no-risk environment they should “not build crude oil lines in their country and not use gas in their kitchens for cooking’s and always will be risks and dangers.”
Same time Turkey will ask Russia to provide more safety security for nuclear reactors and increase safety and security at Akkuyu, planned to built on Turkey`s southern medeterrian coast if is necessary Energy Minister explained to media reporters on Monday.
Same time after news Chambers and associations of Turkish engineers, architects and physicians issued a joint statement against planned nuclear power plants in Turkey. They said that they were not going to allow a power plant to be built in south-eastern Turkey. A protest action is scheduled for Saturday which doesn’t look like going to affect or change any arrangements has been made.
Turkey nuclear reactor plans will go ahead soon and construction will begin at Akkuyu. Mean while Cyprus parliaments has called on the international community to pressure Turkey to abandon plans for a nuclear power plant in the south of the country regarding to Cyprus Media and in the same resolution, the House of Representatives also urges the European Union to more closely monitor EU candidate Turkey’s nuclear programme but we need to know at first EU doesn’t want to know Turkey and keep playing with Turkey and many years Turkey has been trying to EU but no success and never will be because time for Turkey to create and build Arab Union in the Middle East and forget European Union.
Turkish Government has made clear that it is not planning to suspend its nuclear power programme and is ready to start the construction of its first plant in the town of Akkuyu, in the southern Mersin province. We need to ask ourselves clearly how many of you remember that Japan nuclear plants been an issue? But we always say Iran has nuclear plants programs with many others and should be stopped.
Cyprus needs to understand clearly that nuclear power plants will be based in Akkuyu and before trying to pressure Turkish Government, should check all others and back to Turkey because all this time if you look Cyprus never made any efforts to stop nuclear plants anywhere in the World but they wake up with new dreams this week after reading news day before..
