Sarkozy in Turkey

Not just France but mainly EU understand how Turkey is important to EU specialy but never to late, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a firm opponent of Turkey’s accession to the European Union, meets with Turkish leaders today during a brief visit to Ankara. France has always blocked Turkey on EU road.

The talks are unlikely to touch on Turkey’s bid to join the European Union, as Sarkozy will be visiting Ankara in his capacity as current president of the Group of 20 forum, rather than on a state visit.

The visit is scheduled to last only a few hours, and Turkish leaders have voiced disappointment that Sarkozy did not make more time for them, which he always been opposite to Turkey joining EU and alwasy will be because Turkey never liked by Sarkozy and nothing will change.

It is is Sarkozy’s first visit to Turkey since he became president in May 2007. France has blocked progress on five chapters in Turkey’s EU accession negotiations on the grounds that their opening would lead to full membership.

The French president also expressed his country’s wish for Turkey and Israel to find ways to repair their diplomatic relations through dialogue, something he said would be useful for the entire region. However Israel needs to make efforts and try to repair broken friendship with Turkey.

You might also remember that British Prime Minister stated in Qatar Universty already that Israel needs to end massacre on Palestines and they should all work for free Palestine.

Sarkozy also added that Turkey could play a key role in convincing Iran to seek cooperation rather than isolation, and to comply with the demands of the international community.
