A tornado hit the popular Mediterranean resort town of Alanya on Monday, damaging many houses and greenhouses in the Konakli, Payallar and Emigbeleni villages. The tornado hit a 100-meter-wide, 5-kilometer-long area on Konakli beach.
The tornado lasted for only 10 minutes, but caused damage to more than 50 greenhouses, even knocking down some of them. It also broke the windows of many houses and shops.
Hüseyin Sahiner, the manger of a patisserie in Konkal?, said the winds blew off the patisserie’s roof, its sign was destroyed, glasses were broken and 14 tables and 56 chairs in front of the shop disappeared.
Kemal Yildiz, a resident of Emirbeleni, said he looked out of the window when the windows of his house were broken and he saw trees flying in the air in the twister. “My greenhouses and my house were also damaged,” he added.
Alanya Local Gov. Hulusi Dogan told the Anatolia news agency that one greenhouse was completely destroyed while several others were damaged. “But there is nothing to be afraid of and we will try to compensate the losses of our residents,” he said Hurriyet
