Internal body temperature gets so high as to become life threatening. Symptoms are very hot skin, a rapid pulse, confusion and irritation often accompanied by an unwillingness to be treated, and unconsciousness.
Move fast to lower the victim's body temperature, but lower the temperature gradually. Move the victim to a shady spot and do whatever you can to cool the victim down. Try removing outer clothing and applying cool water with a cloth or sponge, and if possibly place the victim in a stream or a bathtub filled with cool water. Make sure that the victim continues to lie down until the body temperature has returned to a safe level.
Continue monitoring in case it goes back up, and seek medical care. Heat emergence are quite serious, and should be treated right away. Sometimes, though, it can be difficult to tell the difference between someone suffering from a heat emergency and someone who is just plain hot. Use your judgment, but do not hesitate to treat someone if you think they are in trouble.
