World Rally for Turkish Strays
The date October 4th was chosen to stage the protest due to it being World Animal Day and protesters were focusing on demands for the autorities to nueter the animals to prevent them from breeding and to health check, ear tag the animals before releasing them back on to streets.
So far no comment has been made by Turkish Government in retallitiation to claims and demands made by the protest and it is not known if the neutering and release system is something that will go ahead at the moment. The protesters also claimed that inexperienced vets are neutering the strays currently and that they are releasing the strays back into the forest and streets before the animals have recovered from surgery.
They claim to be about to disclose the names of political candidates who have mistreated animals under their "NO VOTE FOR ANIMAL KILLERS" project and aiming to persuade voters not to vote for these politicians.
A personal message was sent to the Turkish Prime Minister to request that he follows a more humane way to deal with the problem in Turkey and asked that he ensures anyone not following the correct procedure to be tried for committing a crime.
What will be the outcome of this do you think, we will have to wait and see. You can find original media statments as a pdf file here. Altinkum Didim Today News 13/10/08
