Turkey's bid to qualify for Euro 2008
The visitors won a corner after just three minutes and Tuncay Sanli drove wide from 12 yards in the side's very next attack.
But Malta also poured forward a minute later and Michael Mifsud dragged a low effort off target from just outside the penalty area.
There was little in the way of goalmouth action in the ensuing minutes, but the match came alive just before the break.
Malta were gradually growing in confidence and Ivan Woods sent a low left-foot drive just wide after 34 minutes.
Seven minutes later, the home side went ahead when defender Said shot past Hakan Arikan from 12 yards following Roderick Briffa's corner.
Turkey hit back almost immediately.
Ibrahim Uzulmez crossed from the right and Altintop struck a powerful shot past Justin Haber to put the visitors back on level terms at the break.
After the interval, Turkey began to dominate possession, but were unable to find a way past a stubborn Maltese rearguard.
Then, against the run of play, Malta retook the lead with 14 minutes remaining.
Mifsud crossed from the left and Schembri drilled a low effort into the corner to send the home fans into raptures.
But once again, their joy quickly turned to pain as Turkey equalised immediately.
Cetin steered an excellent header past Haber following Altintop's left-wing cross after 79 minutes.
Mifsud could have snatched a dramatic victory for Malta in the dying seconds, but sent his long-range shot wide.Sportinglife.com
