Turkey And Sweden Turkey played out yet another 0-0, this time while hosting a slightly weakened Sweden side.
The expected Turkish onslaught failed to materialize and it was Sweden, despite being visitors, that started the strongest. Kennedy Bakircioglü had a great chance to score after just four minutes, after a great pass from debutant Marcus Berg, but the shot was not on target.
Kennedy had another great chance in the beginning of the second half. In Sweden’s first corner of the game, which by the way was a gift from the Turkish defense, Kennedy managed to outrun his defender. But he did not manage to get a clean hit on the ball.
Unfortunately for the game, this were the two best chances of the match. In the first half, Turkey had one shot on target, while Sweden had none at all. Even though these statistics improved some in the second half, the real chances were few and far between. The closest Isaksson was to concede a goal was in a corner-kick that could have been ‘Olympic’.
All in all, it was a low intensity game with good defending but few goal-chances. Neither side showed much in terms of creating goal-scoring opportunities and the stars failed to deliver. One player that was without doubt missed by visitors Sweden was ‘Ibra’ - Internazionale's Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who seldom fails to entertain. One of the most interesting incidents in the game was when the camera zoomed in on Gus Hiddink, the Russian coach, who apparently was analyzing the group competition. Russia is the only one of sixteen nations playing the Euro 2008 that did not play a friendly on this particular evening.
