Brazilian Felipe Massa swept to a hat-trick of Turkish Grand Prix victories from pole position with another domineering display for Ferrari at Istanbul Park. The Brazilian triumphed by 3.7 seconds ahead of McLarens British driver Lewis Hamilton with reigning champion Finn Kimi Raikkonen less than half-a-second behind in third in the other Ferrari. Hamilton pulled off the overtaking move of the race on Massa and denied Ferrari a likely one-two despite adopting a three-stop fuel strategy compared to his rivals two stopper.

Turkey went into the game having had their last three friendlies end in goalless draws and this proved to continue the trend. This was another uneventful fixture and most certainly not for the neutrals. The game was not necessarily boring, but neither did it provide the basic thrills of a competitive game. There was simply not enough at stake for either side to really commit to playing attractive, dynamic football. Neither side fielded their full-strength line-ups that had been seen during the Euro 2008 qualifiers; Turkey had introduced four changes, while Sweden had two debutants and another fairly new player. Both sides made a lot of changes in the second half.

Nihat Kahveci scored in the 43rd minute to give Turkey a 1-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday at Ataturk Olympic Stadium, sending Turkey through to next summer's European Championships. The win allows Turkey to finish in second place in Group C, one point ahead of Norway, who earned a 4-1 win over Malta on Wednesday. Greece goes through as group winners after beating Hungary 2-1. The deciding goal came right before halftime as Hamit Altintop provided the cross for Nihat, who brought the ball down and fired it into the corner of the net to put the hosts ahead. The second half was a largely defensive affair with Turkey content to sit on its one-goal lead and take up time.

It was close-fought, but Turkey are back on top in their quest to join Greece in the Euro 2008 finals after a plucky win in Oslo. It all seemed to be going against them as they suffered a goal against and an injury within fifteen minutes of kickoff. After a period of possession, Erik Hagen fired home a tremendous overhead kick after on-form Steffen Iversen's sweet cross into the area twelve minutes in. Then, Ibrahim Kas succumbed to injury, being replaced by Gokhan Gonul shortly afterwards. Still, that seemed to spark something of a comeback spirit among the Turks, who needed at least a point from this encounter to stand any chance of joining Greece in Austria-Switzerland next summer.

Fenerbahce scored twice in one first-half minute to move within touching distance of qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League. Colin Kazim-Richards got the ball rolling, hammering a shot which went in off PSV Dirk Marcellis into the top corner from long range after 29 minutes, before Semih Senturk scored a second from the edge of the area less than 30 seconds later. It was a stunning blow to PSV, who rarely threatened throughout, but Fenerbahce could arguably have scored more. Alex De Souza, who assisted in both goals, Senturk and Gokcek Wederson all wasted chances for Aziz Yildirim's side, though ultimately they were not made to pay for the misses.

Yossi Benayoun had a hat trick and Ryan Babel and Peter Crouch each had two goals as Liverpool defeated Besiktas, 8-0, on Tuesday in the most lopsided win in the history of the Champions League. Benayoun, who also had two assists, scored three straight goals as Liverpool, last year's runner-up, won its first match of this year's competition to stay in contention for a berth in the knockout round. Liverpool (1-2-1), which just lost to Besiktas 2-1 in its last Champions game, still has its work cut out for it in the last two games of the group stage. It will likely need wins over FC Porto and Marseille to advance. Liverpool has four points, four behind Group A leaders FC Porto and three back of second-place Marseille. FC Porto moved into first place in the group with a 2-1 victory over Marseille on Tuesday.
