Turkish Property Scam involving the Golden Beach
One of the victims of the Turkish Property Scam involving the Golden Beach Villas told Didim Today " I met Kevin O'Kane here in Northern Ireland & he told me he was the builder, land owner & developer of the Golden Beach Villas. He told me the villas cost £75k sterling & there was a £7k sterling rental agreement. I went to Turkey viewed the villa, went to the Notary Office & on my return home to Northern Ireland I paid for the villa. During my stay in Turkey I met Kubilay Atmaca the other man at the centre of the scandal. Several months later I was given deeds by Kevin O'Kane which turned out to be fake."
Property victims are currently taking legal action both in Turkey and in Northern Ireland to try to get their money back. The victims here had been told that Kevin O'Kane was not permitted to leave Turkey while the investigation continued. 20 or more victims have travelled to Turkey over the previous months to make their statements. All had been advised that a criminal trial is due over the coming months
However today Kevin O'Kane is back to Northern Ireland walking around a free man having fled Turkey & he is now a fugitive. Victims told "We are hoping that he will be arrested soon by the Police in Northern Ireland & sent back to Turkey to face up to his crimes. I cannot understand why the Police in Northern Ireland have not arrested him already as many of the victims have contacted the police here asking for his arrest. Many of the victims here have taken on hefty mortgages to pay for these villas & we are now left paying large sums every month for villas which we do not own."
This is another blow to the Turkish Property market. we know many people who have said they would not buy in Turkey because of the fake deeds scandal & now to learn that the man at the centre of the investigation has fled the country will further deter foreign investors. Victim`s also told Didim Today that "Turkey is such a great country & the people are so hospitable that is why I chose to buy a villa in Turkey as opposed to other countries such as Spain."
Some other victims have received intimidating phone calls that they believe came from within the O'Kane camp. After all a man that would flee a country & become a fugitive is liable to do anything. Property victims ask the Turkish Authorities to do everything in their power to help the victims, and not let Turkey`s property market down.
