BRITAIN’S new Foreign Secretary David Miliband, has pledged to continue supporting Turkey's accession into the European Union yesterday
Miliband reiterated Britain's support to the Muslim country which has been negotiating for the EU accession since 2005 while countries such as France and Germany are opposing Turkey's inclusion.
Miliband said Gordon Brown's government would like to have closer ties with Turkey by holding annual foreign minister level talks. "We want the EU to be a shared institution of which Britain and Turkey are full and equal members," he said in a joint press conference with Turkish foreign minister Ali Babacan.
He also urged Turkey to enter into customs deals with Cypress, opening its ports and airports.
