A Birmingham woman injured in a fall on holiday in Turkey has received a £56,000
A Birmingham woman injured in a fall on holiday in Turkey has received a £56,000 out-of-court settlement with holiday firm Thomas Cook. Pauline Goodall, 63, was in the resort of Marmaris with her daughter and granddaughter when the accident happened in August 2004.
As Mrs Goodall, from Acocks Green, walked along a corridor in the Lunamar Apartments a waiter slipped on the marble floor, still wet from cleaning, and collided with her. She fell, landing on her knee, and was immediately taken to hospital. She underwent a bone-fusion operation to repair a fracture in her knee. When she returned home she received further treatment at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, and now faces a knee-replacement operation.
Mrs Goodall, who walks with the aid of a stick, left her job at a residential home because of her injuries, and is still unemployed. She said: "It was a very traumatic and upsetting experience, which has left me facing future problems and has disrupted my life." Amandeep Dhillon, from the Travel Law team at Irwin Mitchell, who represented Mrs Goodall, said: "These types of incidents can be avoided if basic health and safety procedures are implemented within hotels. "Mrs Goodall's lifestyle has been severely impacted to the point where she cannot return to work or pursue any of the activities she used to enjoy. 12/01/08 News from Bognor
