Police are taking steps to heighten security awareness among both local and foreign residents of the Aegean resort town of Didim, whose population balloons with the onset of the summer season.
With crime reaching peaks during the tourist influx, local authorities are distributing informational brochures published in both Turkish and English to the resident populace as well as to visitors upon entry to the town.
The preponderance of theft and pick-pocketing activities are highlighted in the leaflet along with warnings about a recent increase in terrorist activities in the country, urging people to be more cautious of suspicious persons and packages.
Noting that the brochures urge the public to call 155 for police help when necessary, Chief of Police Yalçın Akalınlı said: “We have provided information in this brochure on certain violations of law and order and have explained precautionary measures against theft, pick-pocketing and other crimes.
The brochure also includes a detailed explanation of ways to protect yourself from auto theft and to prevent theft in the workplace. We believe our residents will take on significant responsibility to prevent these criminal acts, and it was for this reason that we wanted to bring this situation to their attention.”
