| A new law that has brought significant changes to Turkish citizenship law is a huge subject to cover in one article. I wrote two more articles published last week, and I am planning to cover the highlights of the law in two to four more articles including this one. At the end of the day, an expat living in Turkey or a person who is interested in acquiring citizenship will have an idea of the new law. |

| A new era in Turkish citizenship law is about to start. Talks on procedural matters and substantial issues in respect to acquiring and losing Turkish citizenship were completed in Turkish Parliament on Thursday. The draft bill was discussed under two main chapters. The changes to the citizenship law are a fulfillment of a long time expectation in particular for a group of Turkish citizens persons of Turkish origin living abroad. The new Turkish Citizenship Law draft bill was passed by Parliament late last Thursday night. The old law was created in 1964. Since it first came into effect there were a couple of modifications and amendments made, however, this is the most significant change to citizenship law. |

| Even with Turkey's efficient and extensive bus services we managed to miss the last bus from Marmaris to Bodrum (another seaside town further northwest) and had to spend a fourth night in Marmaris. The next morning we woke bright and early and ended up catching one of the multitude of minibuses that operate adjacent to the major bus companies. Honestly, the transportation system in Turkey is one of the best I have seen (yes, even Germany would have a tough time beating it). The bus companies are located right next to each other offering great deals because they're all competing with each other and service on the buses is better than on many airlines. |

| It is a fact that compulsory military service is not only a concern for male Turkish citizens. It is also a major concern for mothers and fiancées. I have to admit that I have not heard from many mothers. Most of the letters I receive actually, I receive no letters at all, only emails, though I like to write letters instead of emails regarding compulsory military service are from fiancées. Anyway, this is because mothers are not very keen on using the Internet to find answers to their problems. Both seem confusing, really. As they say in Turkish, only my mother can cry for me sincerely. |
