Happy Mother's Day! Or is it? Whether in Turkey, America or elsewhere in the world, mothers hold a special place in our hearts. Unfortunately, the recent survey on the state of mothers, women and children doesn't bear this out as well as we would like. This morning my mother told me that on Mother's Day, during her formative years, anyone who went to church received a red carnation to wear if their mother was alive and a white carnation if their mother had gone to the beyond. She remembered this fondly and made me wonder just how much we really appreciate our mothers.

A woman's voice becomes more alluring when she is at her most fertile, according to US research.Recordings of women taken at different points in their menstrual cycle were played to people of both sexes. New Scientist magazine reports that the voices rated as most attractive belonged to women at peak fertility.

The study suggests sex hormones can alter the workings of the voice box, but the change may be too subtle to pick up in many situations.
