Small girl has died in a swimming pool ( Dalyan )
A two year old girl from Tyneside has died after an accident in a swimming pool on a family holiday to Turkey, the Foreign Office has confirmed. Lucy Cardwell, from Whitley Bay, was in Dalyan when she slipped into the water and hit her head while she played. Emergency doctors gave Lucy artificial respiration and heart massage before she was taken to hospital. She died soon afterwards in intensive care.
A sheffield holidaymaker is stranded in Turkey ( Altinkum )
 A Sheffield holidaymaker is stranded in Turkey after hotel staff gave her passport to another woman by mistake. Kirstie Alice Willett, aged 20, of Dudley Road, Hillsborough, is in Altinkum but does not yet know how she will get home after another guest at the hotel was given her passport and flew back to Britain without being challenged. The incident is now being investigated by the UK Border Agency to establish how a passenger could travel home with a stranger's document. Kirstie is on holiday with her friend and they are looking for temporary work but until her passport arrives back in Turkey she cannot leave the country. The former waitress and home carer said she is lucky she still has a few weeks left in the country.
Co Mayo who has died while in Turkey was on her first foreign holiday ( Kusadasi )
A 20 year old student nurse from Co Mayo who has died while in Turkey was on her first foreign holiday. The victim, named locally as Mary Linnane (20), from Derrycorrib, Glencastle, Belmullet, died in the early hours of yesterday morning after suffering a fatal fall at an apartment in Kusadasi.
Police in Turkey are investigating the tragedy and the Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the dead woman's family as well as liaising with her distressed holiday companions in Turkey.
Ms Linnane, a student nurse at Dublin City University, had travelled to the popular resort on Sunday with 11 friends from the Erris area. It was her first holiday abroad. Her parents, Martin, a former senior intercounty hurler with Galway, and Kathleen, and other family members, were being comforted at home yesterday. 25/07/08
