British couple are being held in a Altinkum Turkey over fake money
British couple are being held in a Turkish jail after allegedly being found with £1,000 of fake £20 notes. Steven and Mandy Bonnington, from Nottingham, were arrested within 24 hours of arriving for a 'dream holiday' for possession and attempting to pass on bogus currency. They are being held in separate prisons and their two children, aged 11 and 15, are being looked after by friends. Last saturday, the family arrived for a week holiday and stay at Apollon holiday Village in Altinkum Didim.
However when they went to change £100 they were told it was fake and were arrested. A search of their apartment found almost £1,000 in counterfeit £20 notes. There was £2,000 more in cash which is being checked by local police in Altinkum Didim.
Mr Bonnington said £1,100 of the cash had come from a private sale before the holiday in UK. The couple were released briefly on Tuesday but appeared again in court where they were ordered to remain in custody for several more days. Mr Bonnington, a bakery supervisor, was shocked with the result of their dream holiday in Altinkum Turkey. 29 / 05/08 Didim Today News Altinkum
