Most modern families spend little time together, and the time they do spend together is often not quality relational time. Instead, it's time running here and there, packing bag lunches, ironing a shirt for work, or sitting in front of the television. For those who want to enjoy purposeful moments with family without spending a fortune or trying to please everyone, creative ideas are necessary.
It has been proven that families who spend time together around the dinner table tend to have better relationships, stronger communication skills, and more enjoyment and success in life. However, that quality family time and the obviously excellent consequences do not have to stop when the dinner dishes are being washed. Think instead of firewood and marshmallows on late summer nights under the stars.
Those who have enjoyed a good summer know that there is no better smell than that of a smoky bonfire. Mix together the crackling flames with freshly shaved sticks for roasting marshmallows, chocolate that melts the minute it hits the heat, and camping chairs you can lounge in, and you have the perfect recipe for quality family time. It would seem that bonfires bring out the best in people.
Perhaps the flames cause us all to be delusional to the point that we are excessively happy, or perhaps it's just that sitting around the fire with family and friends is relaxing, pleasant, and enjoyable. If you have experienced a bonfire at any point in your life, you understand the reality of singing, joking, and simply enjoying the fire as the sunset fades into a starry sky.
Though every family is not the same, I speak from much experience. My family sees very little of each other, but when the fire is burning and the camping chairs come out of the garage, everyone is there. We'll sit for hours, rehashing our favorite family memories and making new ones. Inevitably, the guitar comes out, the marshmallows get sticky or burnt, and new friends join our clan.
Regardless of what else is going on, the firepit gives us reason to breathe, laugh, and enjoy time together. If you're looking for a way to draw family together more often for quality, enjoyable time, we'd recommend a fire pit as one of the best ways to enjoy a summer evening.
You'll need little more than the pit itself, firewood, and all the s'more workings. With that, you've got family time perfectly made. Geoffrey F. Moore Fire Pits
