After attending the 18th Damascus International Film Festival as the guest of honor, famous Turkish screen actress Türkan Şoray plans to film a TV series in Syria. According to the Anatolia news agency, the TV series will take place in Syrian cities, including Damascus and Aleppo, and will be set in the early 1900s. In addition to starring in the series, the actress also noted that she may co-produce the project.
Turkan Şoray did not want to reveal any details about the TV project, she told the agency. “I can only say that the project may be co-produced by one or two countries from the Middle East. The show will, of course, star Middle Eastern actors as well.” The actress said she was very excited to be invited to the festival as the guest of honor to represent Turkey because she had the chance to see the places where the show will be shot.
The famed actress visited historic sites in Damascus accompanied by Turkish Ambassador to Syria Ömer Önhon's wife, Melten Önhon, and Turkish Culture Attaché in Damascus Vehip Özdemir. Having seen Damascus's historic streets, she said the city is the perfect location for historical shows and movies. “We share a common history with Syria.
Everything smells of history here. The architecture resembles our own and the people are warm,” she said about Syria. The Syrians also showed interest in the famous actress, whom they mostly know from the TV series “İkinci Bahar” (A Second Spring), which recently began to be broadcast in the country.
Turkan Şoray said she will return to Turkey with unforgettable memories of Syria. “The festival had a glorious opening. All Middle Eastern actors and moviemakers were here. I was both excited and honored to be present here, representing my country,” she said, adding that Syrian officials and the Turkish Embassy in Syria had shown a great deal of interest in her.
