Ay Lav Yu (l love you)

Ay Lav YuA remote village in Mardin (Southeast Turkey), Tinne has been forgotten by the government for many years. Neither the village, nor any of its people exist officially, even though the family of Yusuf Agha have lived there generations. Hoping his newborn son Ibrahim will get an identification certificate, which is kimlik.

Alice in wonderland

Alice in WonderlandIf you’ve seen the ads for Tim Burton’s re-imagining (re-imagineering?) of Alice In Wonderland, you know the pop goth director has infused this flick with his typical layer of wholesale gloom. Wonderland’s actually called Underland now, the skies are grayer than Ed Asner, and Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter looks like Zombie Carrot Top. It’s such a shame Burton never finished that Nic Cage Superman movie.

Turkish drama Honey

KaplanogluHoney a heart-warming drama from Turkish director Semih Kaplanoglu, has won the Golden Bear for best film at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. The still-incarcerated Roman Polanski won the Best Director Silver Bear for "The Ghost Writer." "Honey," the final film in Kaplanoglu's autobiographical trilogy - the others are "Egg" (2007) and "Milk" (2008) - follows a young boy in rural Turkey whose father collects wild honey.

Battle of Terra

Battle of TerraMade two years before the similarly themed Avatar, this original, vividly designed sci-fi animation makes an astute commentary on current issues. And this depth of feeling more than makes up for the relatively slack pace and thin characters.

It's Complicated

its ComplicatedIn this romantic comedy, Meryl Streep is Jane who's divorced her philandering hubby Jack (Alec Baldwin) over a decade ago. Since then, she's carved herself a dandy life as she cooks and he's remarried to a younger model with a child.

2012 Movie

2012Annihilation has never looked so good. It seems that director Roland Emmerich had saved all his drive for total destruction for this big bang. Take my word for it; Roland Emmerich was born to make movies of destruction.

New Moon

New MoonWolf-infested New Moon is every girl's guilty pleasure.Imagine Transformers for the ladies and you're not far off. The first Twilight movie melted girls' hearts all over the globe with the romantic tale between a girl and a vampire even hard to know that its not real. Well some does it s real. Now, approximately a year later, fans welcome (and haters dread) the second installment of Stephanie Meyer's phenomenally successful franchise, New Moon.

New Moon Movie

New MoonNew Moon - As an outsider to the cult of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight, I confess to not understanding the draw of Bella Swan and her pasty vampiric paramour. Having not read the novels and seen only the uneven, frustratingly bland and often risible (search your heart, you know it to be true) first installment, I was less than eager to catch New Moon. After watching it, less-than-eager seemed far too naive a stance to have taken.

New Moon Twilight

Twilight AngelTwilight was a young adult vampire-romance novel written by author Stephanie Meyer. It was originally published in 2005 in hardback. The whole idea came from a dream that Stephanie Meyer had on June the second 2003. That day, as she woke up from the strange dream, where two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. These two were a normal human pretty and so beatyfull girl and a breathtaking dangeorus vampire, who was so beautiful to the limit that you would feel intoxicated if you were near him.

Saw VI

Saw VIAnother Halloween, another Saw. It’s crazy to think that we haven’t gone a Halloween in six years without seeing Jigsaw torturing the unjust on the big screen. In the sixth installment the series gets political, pointing a finger at the health care system. Insurance companies aren’t always fair and the Saw franchise is indulging in a little payback of its own.

Jennifer's Body

Megan FoxWhen Jennifer’s body gets all demonic, Fox endured a minor amount of effects work. “We did a little bit of a prosthetic. We created an entire dental set for me to put in for when Jennifer is actually eating the boys. What happens to her jaw unclenches kind of like a snake so that she can fully envelop them in her mouth.

District 9

While Hollywood's early venture into science fiction predominantly pandered to public panic related to the Red Scare, the postmodern sci-fi paranoia of choice, if District 9 is any indication, seems to be the color black. In utter disregard of the loathsome racist history of apartheid in their country creating the dismal reality of poverty and pending chaos today, a team of white South African filmmakers has concocted a racially coded alien invasion mockumentary in the guise of entertainment.

Toy Story 3

Toy StoryAgree or disagree about how Star Wars and Jaws shifted our habits of moviegoing forever but I don’t think I’ll be able to swallow any argument that tells me John Lasseter’s sublime Toy Story wasn’t a turning point in modern film history. There are far more fully-CG toons being catapulted into the market place now, week in, week out, than we ever received from the cel-animation studios. At the moment, far more family films are being rendered in vast farms of computers than are photographed on sound stages. Would this still have been the case had Toy Story not been so darn brilliant?

Twilight

TwilightAbout three things the Twilight producers were absolutely positive. First, Twilight was a vampire tale. Second, there was a part of it that thirsted for teenage blood. And third, adolescent girls were unconditionally and irrevocably in love with it. Indeed, American booksellers have hailed the author of the saga, which runs through four novels, as the new J. K. Rowling Stephenie Meyer’s first instalment selling more than five million copies in the US alone, and thereby helping to fill the void left by the departed Boy Who Lived. The fact that the film version arrives Stateside in what has become the pre-Christmas ‘Potter slot’ will only boost the comparisons.

Mamma Mia

If you like the playful, infectious music of ABBA, and I do, it's impossible to not have a good time at a performance of "Mamma Mia!" The play, one of the most frequently and widely staged in history, wraps a touching story around 22 of the former Swedish pop group's swaying-in-the-aisles tunes. But it's because you can see "Mamma Mia!" in so many places like Istanbul, Ankara, London, Sweden, Germany, France and any other places. But his energy makes Tanya, the older woman he's pursuing, seem lethargic. Broadway veteran Michelle Dawson likely at the director's behest leans too heavily on bawdy gestures, rather than using her stride and ironic facial expressions as an actress like Christine Baranski might

Surrogates

Set sometime in the near future, Surrogates imagines a world in which 99% of its inhabitants live their lives vicariously through "surrogates," robotic avatars who brave the hazards of the physical world while their schlubby owners sit safely at home in computerized cocoons, experiencing it all via neural sensors affixed to their heads.

Couples Retreat

Seeing Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn reunite on the big screen is an enticing proposition. As anyone who has watched them in The Break-Up or Made can attest, the two Swingers alums seem to step up their improv game whenever they share the frame, and their verbal sparring rarely yields anything short of comedy gold.

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter

Now that Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince has come and gone, we can officially say the end is near. The last Potter installments will be entitled the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2, and will be released within a year of each other. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, they spoke to one of the stars of the film, Helen McCory about the pending finale, and according to her it’s going to be epic! McCory stars in the Harry Potter series as Narcissa Malfoy, the mother of the troubled character Draco.

The Ugly Truth

Beneath the veneer of soft and soulful, he believes, all men have only one thing on their minds. Or, is it two? "We all fall in love with t*ts and ar*e," he declares early. For him, that's the ugly truth that women chasing dreamboats constructed from paperback romantic novels must wake up to.

All I Need Is A Wife

How Kofi Adjorlolo wishes that he had a woman he could call his wife by his side at this time that fame and fortune are beginning to knock on his door. Doubtless, the 52-year-old popular movie actor, with two failed marriages behind him and two children to raise, has been through some rough times on his way up. Anyone listening to Adjorlolo's life story would agree with him that indeed he deserves a break from the hustler that he has been for the most part of his adult life.
