Kate Winslet has won a court battle over Associated Newspapers after the Daily Mail published an article saying she had lied about her exercise regime. Ms Winslet who did not appear at London's High Court said that the article was "simply not true".

"I strongly believe that women should be encouraged to accept themselves as they are, so to suggest that I was lying was an unacceptable accusation of hypocrisy." she said in a statement released to the press. "I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology..." she said adding that she continues to live by the values she expresses in public about body issues "including diet and exercise".

Kate Winslet, 34, is well known for her comments regarding weight especially her lack of regard for it "In our house, we don't talk about weight, we don't talk about body image" she said, 2006, and was furious when a photo of her was altered for GQ cover in 2003 - the legs were shown thinner and the stomach flatter. Kate however was accused of lying about herself by the Daily Mail who published an article about her entitled "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world's most irritating actress?".

In it were photos of the actress in her various films where she appeared naked the accusation being that her slimmed down 2009 figure NOT down to her exercise regime - 20 minutes Pilates... "I've actually been this way since I had Joe," she had said. "I don't go to the gym because I don't have time but I do Pilates workout DVDs for 20 minutes or more every day at home." Kate had said.

Ms Winslet, speaking in a statement said that she was delighted that the accusations were proved false. "I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise." she said.

"The claimant has frequently asserted the right of women to accept the way that they look and by accusing her of trying to mislead the public" her solicitor, Rachel Atkins said, adding that the defendant had caused her client "a great deal of distress". Ms Winslet accepted their settlement of £25,000 damages including legal fees. Source from ibtimes reported online.
