Discovering Disneyland Author: Paul Buchanan If you are planning a trip to Disneyland then working out how to get there will no doubt be on your to-do list. It also helps to have plans for your time inside the Disneyland resort as it covers a large area of ground.

Regardless of where you are travelling from, either within the United States or from further afield, you will be able to navigate your way to Disneyland with ease via one of the various means of transport on offer. There are several airports in close proximity to Disneyland. The two airports that commonly serve Disneyland are John Wayne Airport and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

John Wayne Airport is around 14 miles away from Disneyland and LAX approximately 35. There are also three other airports within a 40 mile radius; Long Beach Municipal Airport, Burbank Airport and Ontario Airport, so you have plenty of options to choose from. Once you have touched down you can use public transport to travel to Disneyland or you can opt to hire a car and drive yourself.

You can catch a shuttle bus to Disneyland from any Los Angeles area airport and can even reserve your seats beforehand, which helps to ensure you get to the Magical Kingdom as planned. If you are hiring a car then you could take advantage of the satellite navigation systems also rented out by car hire companies.

A satellite navigation device can help you get to Disneyland with the minimum of fuss and can cut your journey time as traffic updates help you steer clear of any potential pitfalls. If you are travelling from outside of the United States then remember Americans drive on the right hand side of the road and automatic transmission is often more common than manual when it comes to the car itself.

Once you arrive at the Disneyland resort you should be able to easily navigate your way around using the ‘hub and spoke’ layout. In the centre, or hub, of Disneyland you can find the “Partners” statue of Walt and Mickey. From this centre point the main parts of the park branch out, similar to the wheel spoke on a car or bicycle.

Disneyland is split into eight areas or lands; Main Street is south of the centre, Fantasyland is to the North, Tomorrowland is to the East and both Adventureland and Frontierland are to the West. New Orleans Square, Critter Country and Mickey’s Toontown are the three newest lands and were added on after the five originals were established. Each land is adjacently connected to the next so you can go from land to land without going back to the hub.

When you are actually inside the park the Disneyland Rail Road is an easy way to get around. If you choose to stay in one of the Disneyland hotels then you will most likely benefit from a free park shuttle service though it is best to check before you make your reservations.
